Early last year, I lent my Diana Mini to a friend. She hadn't finished the film, so I thought I'd take it out in the snow to finish it off, and the results are pretty disappointing on the whole. It's a pretty decent camera, usually, and I managed to capture
some nice shots of the snow in London last year, so I can only blame the film. I think I need to stop buying Lomography film. The last few films I've had developed have been pretty disappointing. If you can recommend a good 35mm film, please do share!
Oh, thats a shame!
ReplyDeleteI use Kodak Portra 400, if thats any help. Though I think I am going to start using Fuji as its cheaper.
I have a similar post for tomorrow and my disappointing Diana F photos :(
I love fuji provia and velvia films, but I think they're both slide film. Superia is also good and I think that's C-41 processing. It's been a long time since I shot film, but all of these are good.
ReplyDeleteProvia & Velvia are slide - I have some, but haven't got around to shooting any.
DeleteHa! At some point last year I lost all of my patience with the Diana F and I sold it! But talking about film, which film was that? I've tested more 120mm than 35mm films and so far the only 35mm I'd recommend is Lomography Earl Grey. Have you have tried it? I read that it's nothing but a Fomapan 100 with a different name. Have a look at my blog to have an idea of what you can get.
ReplyDeleteAfter trying Lomography, Kodak and Fuji, I stopped on Fuji. It's cheap and I love the results!
ReplyDeleteI agree, Fuji is lovely - for both price and results!
DeleteI've ordered Fuji!
DeleteLook forward to seeing the results! I am going for Reala next.
DeleteI'm a big fan of Kodak Ektar, its pretty good and sharp and does nice colours.
ReplyDeleteI wrote an extensive reply on film choices but due to the word limit I can't post it here!
ReplyDeleteI've put it up on my blog for you all to read in full HERE

Deleteamazing!
Thank you! That's incredibly helpful.
DeleteIt is my Mastermind specialist subject after all!
Deletesounds like you're not having much luck
ReplyDeleteOh dear. I got the Polariod film from Lomography and it came out really really bad. I am puzzled and wonder whether it is the camera or the faulty film. Grr! Will blog about it soon to collect answers

P.S. I am quite new film photographer but I would definitely recommend Fujifilm x
ReplyDeleteLovely snowy pictures :) x
ReplyDeleteI kind of find these photos really lovely. The colors are faded and since it is snowy it is dreamy. I have never used Diana but the minis take in 35mm film of any kind so I would be dissappointed just yet. I love using Fuji :)

I kind of like the dreamy whitewashed effect of these snaps; very Diana-like! I've only used my Mini once + out of a 36 roll, I think only 10 or so turned out good (I used really really cheap film, which is partly to blame). Here's my blog posts on my Mini shots: http://www.teachickadees.com/2012/08/diana-mini-firsts-part-one.html
ReplyDeleteSomeone mentioned Lomography's Earl Grey film - I used that with my Holga + got stunning results!
